AAE Industries has a strong commitment to safety - safety switches and exit lighting are essential aspects of a commercial property to ensure a safe workplace.
We can assist you in ensuring your safety switches, emergency and exit sign lights are functioning by performing safety switch checks and exit light testing.
Safety switches are often confused with circuit breakers and fuses, but they perform different tasks.
Safety switches monitor the flow of electricity through a circuit and turn off the power in a fraction of a second if a leakage of current is detected. Safety switches provide personal protection against electric shock.
Circuit breakers, on the other hand, protect an electrical circuit by quickly cutting power when there is a high current fault or overload that may cause a hazard.
One safety switch may not be adequate enough to protect you from electric shock as it only protects you if the item is on the circuit that you have it installed.
Power points, lights, air conditioning, oven, hot water and pool equipment circuits, even if they are on a separate tariff should all have safety switches installed and should be checked every three months.
Under the Australian Standards 2293.2, all business entities must perform periodic inspection procedures for all emergency evacuation lighting so that they are ready and working at all times.
Emergency and exit light testing are a legal obligation that must be completed every six months. Some basic checks during and exit light testing includes:
- Check function for lamps. Any defective lamps will need to be replaced to match the colour and technology of the previous installation.
- The charger must be functional. In order to test this, the battery will be disconnected from the charger and let run for a full 90 minutes. If it does not function properly, it indicates a problem with either the battery or the charger.
Those are 2 basic tests that must be performed, on top of several other checks that will take place to ensure the full functionality of the exit lighting system.
AAE Industries will provide a log book so you can keep a record of all exit light and safety switch tests, as well as the location, brand, and model of each exit and/or emergency light.
